Who we are
The website address is: https://jlwilsondesigns.com.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Most data is collected specifically when you purchase something from the website or submit a form on the website. However, the site does use some cookies (e.g. Google Analytics, MailPoet) in order to better understand how the website is being used and to improve the website or provide additional services. The data collected in each of these cases is described below.
All financial data is routed through a payment processor to ensure that your data is kept secure. We use Stripe on this site, so you can rest easy knowing that an industry-standard payment processor is securing your financial data, and that this website uses SSL to create secure connections.
This site uses Dubsado to provide you with the opportunity to contact us, schedule custom work, or purchase various services. To use any of these forms, you must provide specific personal information (e.g. e-mail, name), and this data is stored with Dubsado and Gmail.
From time to time, polls are available on the website. In these cases, the only data collected is your choice in the poll.
When you leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
Giveaways are conducted through KingSumo’s web app. By entering a giveaway, KingSumo collects your e-mail address to subscribe you to the J. L. Wilson Designs e-mail list and tracks how many entries to the giveaway you have earned based on your actions.
This site uses Google ReCaptcha to avoid spam and fake accounts when someone signs up to a newsletter or submits a form.
When you choose to sign up for the newsletter, you are opting in to receive e-mails showcasing new covers available for purchase on the website as well periodic discount codes and information about J. L. Wilson Designs. We use MailPoet and Sendfox to manage our email marketing subscriber list and to send emails to our subscribers. MailPoet and Sendfox are third-party providers, which may process your data using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our newsletter.
For those who sign up to the newsletter, your e-mail address, the country you are located in, and basic usage information (e.g. e-mails opened, links clicked) is collected and stored in MailPoet and Sendfox accounts. Usage information is collected to better tailor future content to you and to improve content. You can unsubscribe from our newsletter by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided at the end of each newsletter.
If you upload any images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Embedded content from other websites
Content on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
We use “cookies” on this site. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a visitor’s hard drive to help us improve your access to our site and identify repeat visitors to our site. If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
It is possible to remove cookies stored on your computer by adjusting your browser settings. Some third party cookies can also be controlled with a privacy enhancement platform (e.g. http://output.aboutads.info, http://youronlinechoices.com). If you want to know more about cookies, you can visit http://allaboutcookies.org
This site uses Google Analytics in order to track information about how the site is being used. This lets us know some technical information like which browser and operating system was used and whether the site was viewed on a mobile phone, a tablet, or on a computer so that we can improve your future experience. It also lets us know where traffic is coming from (e.g. via a social media link or by direct search) and which pages are visited so that we can improve less popular pages and provide more content similar to popular pages. This data is kept indefinitely. (Note: We do not currently collect information for retargeting or advertising purposes.) We also use MailPoet cookies.
Additional information on Google Analytics cookies can be found here: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/cookie-usage
If you do not wish to have Google Analytics cookies placed on your computer, you can opt out by visiting http://optout.networkadvertising.org/ and following the directions. Opting out should not affect your experience on this site. Alternatively, there is a web browser add-on that can be installed to opt out of these cookies: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
Who we share your data with
The site is hosted by Amazon Web Services. We use WordPress and Woocommerce to provide you with access to the J. L. Wilson Designs Shop, and Google Drive to store backups. Data collected during a purchase is shared with Dubsado and Stripe, and data collected from a giveaway is shared with Kingsumo. Finally, newsletter data is shared with MailPoet and Sendfox, and other information collected through the site (e.g. Google Analytics) may be shared with Google and Gmail.
How long we retain your data
Analytics records, and messages received by submitting forms on this website, making purchases, or by e-mail may be kept indefinitely.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
What rights you have over your data
You can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes, and if you do request we erase personal data, some services may no longer work (e.g. download access to purchased products).
Where we send your data
Third parties are only involved when they are necessary to provide a particular service. The site is hosted by Amazon Web Services, and is backed up on Google Drive. Personal data collected via forms on the site is shared with Dubsado, while personal data collected via giveaways is shared with Kingsumo. Personal and financial data is shared with Stripe for secure payment processing. Analytics is shared with Google. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, and data collected via newsletter subscription is connected to a MailPoet account and a Sendfox account. The primary e-mail for this website is connected to Gmail.
How secure is your data
The site uses SSL to make a secure connection, and runs a firewall and malware software. Access to this data is password-protected. Should a breach occur, you will be notified within 14 days.
Any data that is not stored in the site’s database is stored in a third party database designed specifically for the purpose of storing this type of data securely (e.g. Stripe).
